Day 1-
• Using a digital projector present a slide show of mythical creatures, briefly give an over view of their stories. Following that present a slide show of bizarre, rare and extinct earthly creatures.
• Show students how to draw a dome. Then demonstrate colored pencil techniques of smooth layering, color mixing and gradients.
• Have students draw 6 #2 pencil sketches and 3 large colored pencil sketches.
Day 2-
• Run animal slide show during class and have printouts available for students
• Students will continue sketching
Day 3 -
• Have students use tape and sharpie to label a grocery bag
• Introduce clay as a material. Review vocabulary: kiln, bisque fire, glaze, bone dry, plastic, green ware, slip, score, kidney tool, needle tool, wedge, and blending.
• Demonstrate pinch pot process. Wedge, roll into ball, thumbs in, pinch until slides are all even at about index finger thickness, smooth.
• Review clay clean up procedures/ remind students to wrap bag around clay.
Day 4-
• Demonstrate proper slip n' core technique
• remind students to wedge clay
Day 5-
• work day
Day 6/7-
• work day
• have students leave projects out of bag to dry
• if students finish early have them complete an independent project for extra credit

At this point the clay is going to need a few days to dry out and then undergo a bisque fire.

Day 8 -
• Introduce acrylic paint. Warn students that it is liquid plastic and will stain clothes. Show students basic techniques and color mixing. Tell the students that mixing their own unique colors will raise their grade and allow them to gain more experience with the paint.
